Conveyor belts and drive belts for industry

PVC belts are more economical and suitable for general use in logistics and packaging. PU (polyurethane) belts are more resistant to fats and oils, have a wider temperature range and are used in the food industry where direct contact with food is required.

For the food industry, PU belts approved for food contact (FDA/EU), modular plastic belts in polypropylene or polyethylene, and for thermal processes, stainless steel metal belts are used.

Metal conveyor belts can operate across a very wide range: from cryogenic temperatures (-200 °C) to high-temperature processes such as industrial ovens (up to 900 °C with special alloy steel).

A modular belt is a conveying system made up of interlocking plastic modules that can be partially repaired without replacing the entire belt. Ideal for applications requiring high hygiene (meat, fish, fruit and vegetables), curves, direction changes, or liquid drainage.

Food-contact belts must comply with EU Regulation No 1935/2004 (materials in contact with food), FDA 21 CFR for US exports, and in many cases EHEDG and BRC/IFS standards. Materials should also be free of plasticisers and detectable by metal detection systems.

Width is determined by the type and size of the product to be conveyed (typically product width + 50-100 mm margin). The useful length depends on the centre distance between drums. At Matuz we help with technical calculation at no commitment.

Lifespan depends on multiple factors: belt material, workload, temperature, chemical exposure and maintenance quality. Under normal conditions, a PVC or PU belt can last 2-5 years. Modular and metal belts, with proper maintenance, can exceed 10 years.
